The next day I received another letter from a hurting young lady about the age of 19. She wrote from her heart, “Hello Becky, my name is Melissa. Without going into detail, I would like to ask you to pray for healing for me to be complete and whole. I have been through many unsettling and traumatizing situations in my life. I have committed many sins as well. I have attempted suicide numerous times, and have never succeeded. To God be the glory for that! I struggle with depression.…”

How should we respond? We respond with sincerity of heart and with words of encouragement. Here is my response to this young lady.

Dear Melissa, I renounce the spirit of suicide and lying spirits over you. I release the healing balm of Gilead over your mind and emotions and that you are willing to go with Jesus into the deep corners of your heart. And by the healing power of forgiveness of those who have done you wrong, I declare you are healed and made whole. And all broken relationships that need to be healed, like with your parents, are healed for the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. I am glad you are alive. I am proud of you for not going through with the devil’s plan of suicide. God has a purpose and a destiny for you. And if you will completely give this painful area over to Jesus and allow Him to deliver and heal you from all of it, this can become your greatest strength—ministry to others who are struggling. Keep up the faith, forget the past, and move forward in Jesus’ name, amen.

These are three letters I received in two days concerning three different girls struggling with life’s hurts and believing the lies of satan that suicide is the answer. According to the organization Suicide Awareness Voices of Education (SAVE), females attempt suicide three times as often as males (CDC)1
